7/11: Police informer tipped-off cops

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Even as the investigation into the 7/11 serial blasts continue at a snail's pace, a police informer Sajjid Sheikh opened a fresh can of worms when he said that he had tipped the police off after he overheard a conversation between three men at a restaurant in Secunderabad.

Sheikh alleged that he had informed the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) that the three men were planning bomb blasts in Mumbai. The serial bombings on the suburban trains had left nearly 190 people dead.

In what revealed lapses in an earlier investigation, Sheikh alleged that the ATS had cooked up the date of the arrests of the three men from Nagpada.

Sheikh said that the arrests were made just seven months before the Mumbai blasts. He also accused the ATS of not revealing that a sum of Rs 84 lakh were recovered from them.
