Mumbai: One of the victims of the July 11 Mumbai Sanjay Shirke succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Sanjay Shirke, the 35-year-old victim who was reunited with his family with help from CNN-IBN, had been put on a ventilator since he was admitted.

But for his family and friends it's not just the tragic loss of a loved one that has left them bitter.

Sanjay's tryst with fate is not new, as his friends and collegues concede.

“On that fateful day he took permission to leave early from office to seek the blessings of his guru,” Shirke’s colleague Santosh Rai said.

Then came the faux pas by the police.

“The police or somebody misidentified him as Chandrakant Shinde. So the colony people wound up searching for him from hospital to hospital,” Shirke’s family friend, Pravin Rajwadia, said.

As if these were not enough, there were problems at the hospital as well while Sanjay's family waited to receive his body.

“We must have waited for three-and-a-half hours for the Resident Medical Officer to process the papers,” Shirke’s cousin Ramakant Sawant says.
