VELLORE: The district police department has booked a total of 31 persons under the Bootleggers and Goondas Act since the month of January to eradicate the selling and brewing of illicit liquor and to maintain law and order in the district, Superintendent of Police A Kayalvizhi said.
The department has booked 23 bootleggers under Bootleggers Act and eight under the Goondas Act, she said.
“We have booked four notorious rowdies under the Act recently and also a few under process to ensure that the district is safe and free from those creating problems,” said the SP.
G G Ramesh (44) of Vellore, Kattakalan (alias) Anbazhagan (31) of Naganeri village, Sasi (alias) Sasikumar (24) of Thottapalayam and Nagu (alias) Nagarajan (27) of Vellore have been booked under the provision of Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Goondas of the act during the first week of May, according to officials in the police department.
