Click to play videoAllahabad: In a shocking case of discrimination from Belamundi - a village in Uttar Pradesh - an eight-year-old has been expelled from a government run primary school after he tested HIV positive. And not just that, his his brother and sister have been expelled from the school as well.
"They sent me back from school. They said I was infected with HIV so I couldn't attent school. My brother and sister were told to leave school too," says the boy.
The parents of the children had died of AIDS in another locality. The mother died nearly three years ago while the father died last June. The principal says he was forced to expel the children after almost 190 of the 212 students began boycotting classes.
"The villagers are against to children coming to school. They are afraid of catching the infection. We tried explaining, but they aren't ready to listen. They were even ready to fight with us," says the principal of the school.
A local NGO has filed a complaint against the principal and has asked the district magistrate to come to the help of the children.
