90 lakh Indians watch adult content on mobile

New Delhi: Over the years adult content has been the most searched on the web, but now mobiles are also witnessing the same phenomenon. Adult content providers are exploiting all the capacities and functionalities of mobile phones such as chat, SMS, premium SMS, WAP, location, etc to push their content to mobile consumers.

"Out of 70 million global mobile users who watch adult content, 13 per cent (90 lakh) are from India," a senior executive of the mobile industry told The Mobile Indian on condition of anonymity.

The executive further said, "On an average, these 90 lakh Indians who watch adult content on mobile spend around Rs 5,500 (70 pounds) per annum to get good quality adult videos on their phone."

These users spend an average of around Rs 5,500 annually to watch adult content.

Adult services on mobile include a broad variety of services ranging from erotic messaging to HD videos. Till some time back premium SMS and WAP were the most sought after services, but now apps, games, video and images have taken the lead.

On the games front, until recently, aspiring actress Poonam Pandey appeared in an Android and iOS game named Strip Poker. In the game, she would take her clothes off with each level that the player cleared.

There are more than 1,000 apps in different app stores like Android market, iTunes and Nokia store that cater to an adult audience and mostly comprise of strip poker or puzzle games that use pictures which we can't show here.

Also, while downloading adult apps on your phone or tablet, be very careful as some users have reported that these adult apps lure them to some premium SMS messaging scam, which may bore a hole in your pocket.
