Mumbai: Nasim Barmare, held guilty of the 1993 serial bomb blasts conspiracy by a TADA court, pleaded for leniency in sentence on Tuesday saying he had an ailing mother and had got 'infuriated' as innocents had to suffer during the communal riots of 1992-93.
Apologising for his deeds, Barmare said, "Bekasur ko marega toh gussa aayega" (targeting innocents makes people angry).
He pleaded leniency in sentence saying he has an ailing old mother who suffers from heart ailment, blood pressure and diabetes and said his two brothers live separately.
According to him, since his father died seven years ago during the trial, the responsibility of the entire family was on his shoulders.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Iqbal Shaikh, who was also found guilty on Monday, refused to give his statement saying he was not in the right frame of mind and his lawyer will file the necessary statement.
He later signed a statement to this effect and when he was being taken to the docks, he said, "Baar-bar kyun bimar ko pareshan karte hain?" (Why are you troubling a sick man again and again?).
Shaikh was found guilty of obtaining arms training at Sandheri and Bhorghat in Raigad district of Maharshtra prior to the blasts; filling of RDX in vehicles and parking an unexploded RDX laden scooter in Naigaum in Dadar while Barmare was found guilty of hurling grenades at Bay 54 of Sahara Airport.
