'93 blasts case lawyer Ujjwal Nikam hospitalised

New Delhi: He is perhaps the most visible face among the judicial panel in 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam – instrumental in securing the conviction of over 100 accused in the case – has been hospitalised due to a severe case of food poisoning.

Nikam is currently admitted to the ICU of Mumbai’s Breach candy Hospital. "He had been travelling for some time and has been suffering from food poisoning for the last two-three days. Due to this, he was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital late last night," sources close to Nikam’s family were quoted by news agencies as saying.

The lawyer is said to be out of danger and is presently undergoing medical tests.

About Nikam

He was instrumental in securing conviction of 100 of the 123 accused persons, including actor Sanjay Dutt, in the case.

Nikam has been credited to lead the case against the perpetrators of the 1993 serial blasts that killed 257 people and so far has called for the severe punishment to those convicted guilty.

Nikam has already been provided with security and the Court particular resembles fortress with tiers of security guards deployed outside.
