New Delhi: The Delhi's traffic police responsible for manning roads and maintaining order but what happens when these men help others flout rules? 98 officials of the Delhi police have been caught taking bribes on camera and all thanks to one man.
The men in uniform had no idea that they were being watched all the time by Chetan Sharma a property dealer himself a victim of police harassment.
“I use to put the camera in my cap, my buttons and my pen at times also. Policemen never noticed. I was surprised they didn’t, but the truth is their eyes were always on money,” Chetan Sharma said.
Chetan started filming these men in October last year after a group of blueline operators came to him seeking help.
He submitted all the tapes to the Delhi High Court in January following which an inquiry was ordered.
Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat said, “On the basis of the report filed by the vigilance commission 11 sub inspectors, 11 ASI's, 10 head constables and 66 constables have been suspended.”
But this daring man who has been bringing cops to the book for nearly a decade with his sting operations hasn't had it easy.
“I have been tortured and beaten for days. The police even wanted to finish me off in an encounter once upon a time,” he said.
Since 2007 more than 150 people have lost their lives due to blueline accidents but if it wasn’t for the backing of tainted cops the blueline operators would have never been able to flout laws so openly and the death toll might not have been that high.
