Mumbai: "What's there to say? A birthday is like any other day for me. Yes, friends, fans and supporters make it a very special day for me. I accept their good wishes with tremendous humility and gratitude," is all that superstar, youth icon and the man with the many faces, Amitabh Bachchan had to say as he had a quiet 65th birthday. Spent with the ill Teji Bachchan, his mother.
While the India sent her wishes to the Big B, the favourite of many spent a birthday worrying about his critically-ill mother and away from family. Son Abhishek was shooting in Namibia for Goldie Behl's Drona, daughter-in-law Aishwarya was wrapping up the Pink Panther in Boston while wife Jaya was down with a bout of flu.
"He wrapped up his shooting by evening on the eve of his birthday and headed straight to the hospital to be with his mom. That's where he brought in his birthday. Being with his mother gave him an inner strength and tranquillity," said a close friend of Amitabh.
Even as Bachchan wished for a quiet evening, fans and media gathered outside his house; the fans wanting to wish their icon, the media, wanting their bytes. The Big B however, politely turned down interview requests.
