Mumbai: A security solutions company says it is developing a software that can zero in on wanted criminals in a crowd.
The software, which works in conjunction with closed-circuit cameras, can even set off an alarm if it sees anything suspicious.
Many terror strikes could have been avoided, if the terrorists were identified and arrested before could do any damage. Now Zicom Electronic Security Systems, a security solutions company in Mumbai, says it has developed a software which can do just that.
“We've made our software smart. It uses a technique called facial recognition to identify a terrorist from amongst thousands of people,” said Zicom Electronic Security Systems Director Pramod Rao.
The software works in tandem with closed circuit cameras.
The company says it can detect suspicious activity and automatically set off an alarm.
A monitoring team then reviews the 3D model of video from the camera, and alerts the local police.
The police can also feed data about wanted criminals and terrorists into the software.
The software can then spot the criminals in a crowd and alert the monitoring team.
The team developing this software feels this is an important step in stemming terrorist activity in India.
“Take for example the London blasts or any other terrorist activity, the CCTV cameras have been very useful in nabbing the culprits,” said Zicom Electronic Security Systems Chief Technology Officer Santosh Pillai.
Useful as it may be, the software's still being tested and it'll be three more months before it's launched.
