KOCHI: It was a celebration of unconditional love for all the mothers who gathered for the ‘Mathru Sparsham’ (Mother’s Touch) that revolved around the concept of ‘God could not be everywhere and therefore He made mothers’.
The programme, organised by the Lourde Hospital to honour all mothers as part of Mother’s Day, was inaugurated by actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma on Tuesday.
“As a child I was gloomy and an intovert. Nobody understood me except my mom. That is the power of a mother. Only she can understand and love you unconditionally,” said Ponnamma, who was honoured at the function by draping a ponnada on her.
The management also honoured many mothers who were present at the function by presenting them with badges of recognition.
The event also marked the golden jubilee celebration of the hospital. As part of the event, additional District Medical Officer  Haseena Muhammad inaugurated a Family Medicine Department in the hospital.
The department will provide primary healthcare  to patients. The physicians here will then direct the patient to the specialist that he or she needs to consult. The department will also provide family/community-oriented healthcare services.
Awareness camps and regular medical camps will be conducted at schools in the nearby areas,  said Lourde Hospital director Fr Sabu Nedunilath.
The Family Medicine Department’s outpatient wing will be open from 8 am to 10 am and from 2 pm to 4 pm. Door-to-door medical care will be provided to the bedridden and sick people between 9 am and 1 pm at the houses situated within 1 km radius of the hospital.
