New Delhi: As the crowds gathered on a sunny day in Paris to watch Carlos Sastre fulfill his life long dream of winning the Tour de France, his friends, family and supporters cheered for the man in his hometown Spain - and he finally won the Yellow Jersey.
Carlos Sastre is now the third Spaniard in a row to win the world's number 1 cycling championship after Oscar Pereiro and Alberto Contador. As far as sporting events go, this has been Spain's year through and through.
"Right now Spain has won the Tour de France. With Nadal we won at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and we have also won Euro 2008. It's our year in Spain!" says a Spanish sports fanatic, Jose Carlos Diaz.
And Carlos Sastre's family couldn't have asked for more.
His aunt, Petri Candil says, "We've cried, we've laughed, we've jumped around. It's been so big, such an enormous emotion for us, his family, for his friends and all his hometown who loves him. I can't help getting the chills when I think of it. It's really a once in a lifetime emotion."
