New York: Signing autographs, meeting the fans, walking the red carpet and posing for shutterbugs – it was the usual drill for actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as they arrived for the New York premiere of their film, A Mighty Heart.

The film, based on a book by Mariane Pearl, documents her ordeal that followed the kidnapping and subsequent murder of her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002.

The film, however, brings together the celebrity couple in a professional space – while Angelina plays the lead role of Marianne, husband Brad has co-produced the film through his production company, Plan B.

So did he suggest that Angelina play the lead role?

“There's great parallels between her and Mariane as far as their intelligence and their strength. It was actually Mariane who thought it made sense. I like the idea but it would be a little bit of Paul Wolfowitz for me to suggest it. I was glad I didn't have to because she was, it was something that made sense to Mariana and it made sense to Angie as well,” Brad said.

But Angelina was impressed with Brad's skill as a father more than as a producer.

“He's a great boss and a great dad. He was home in India most of the time with the kids. He had the hardest job. I was going to work and he was with the three children,” Angelina said.

Meanwhile, actor Irrfan Khan who plays Captain in the film felt that it is important to connect with the subject when shooting a film.

“I think if you connect to the part in your story, it doesn't make you drained. When you don't connect, when you do things externally, when you do things mechanically, that drains you. I felt great after the filming because it was so intense for six weeks, day in and day out and thinking about the same thing. It does have an effect on your mind, but it is worth it,” Irrfan Khan said.

But the film seemed to have had a profound effect on Angelina.

“I think everybody who watches this film will have that thought when you realise through the film, you remember again and again she is carrying a baby. It was one of the happiest times of my life when I was that many months pregnant and months away from sitting in a hospital room and looking across from my baby and the daddy and sharing this moment of pure love and joy. They took that away from that family,” Angelina said.
