Jharkhand: With the BJP’s Arjun Munda as its new chief minister, Jharkhand will soon have a new government. With this event, the BJP returned to its uneasy relationship with Shibu Soren's Jharkand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The new government will have Arjun Munda at its head, with Shibu Soren's son Hemant as its deputy.
Happy days are here again for Arjun Munda and the BJP. After the public spat and separation with JMM, the BJP has chosen to forge a relationship with the JMM yet again to take hold of the political reins in Jharkhand.
There was once the angry BJP, upset with Shibu Soren for supporting the UPA during the opposition-sponsored cut motion on fuel price hike in Parliament.
And now, after a few months the picture has all but changed. At present the BJP looks gleeful as its Jharkhand leaders met the governor giving him letter of support of 45 MLAs, which would enable them to form a government.
"I thank JMM for helping us to form the government," said Munda.
After swearing in, the Jharkhand cabinet will have Munda as its Chief Minister. Shibu Soren’s son Hemant will function as the deputy CM. In addition, there will be four ministers from the BJP and five from JMM. The government will have the support of 45 MLAs consisting of BJP, JMM, JDU and AAJSU.
The congress, however, is calling the latest alliance in Jharkhand as political opportunism.
"We don’t want to cheat the people, we will come forward only when we are ready," said Keshav Rao.
The entire exercise of bringing JMM and BJP close to each other has been managed by former BJP President Rajnath Singh, despite some strong resistance from the likes of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitly who are apprehensive about the stability of any alliance with the JMM.
