Mumbai: Even though actors Anupam Kher and Om Puri's films Jaan-e mann and Don are battling it out at the box office, the men have come together to launch a new movie, Victoria No: 203.
It’s a remake of the old film by the same name that starred Ashok Kumar, Pran, Navin Nischol and Saira Banu.
Ashok Kumar and Pran's roles will now be essayed by Kher and Puri.
The original was produced and directed by Brij Sadanah, father of actor Kamal Sadanah who is in producer's chair this time.
And while filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma may be having sleepless nights over Gabbar Singh in his remake of Sholay, Sadanah feels he is lucky.
“I don’t have to buy the rights of the film from anyone. This is the film my father produced and directed. I have all the rights of the film,” he says.
The film will be directed by Anant Mahadevan and will have actors Jimmy Shergill and Amrita Arora playing Navin Nischol's and Saira Banu's roles.
“We have thrown all the so-called contrived situations out of the window. The girl posing as guy with moustache, it’s like retaining the soul and changing the garb,” says Mahadevan.
While the original had music by Kalyanji-Anandji, the new version has Kalyanji's son Viju Shah composing the music.
Also some of the old songs will be retained with Kishore Kumar's voice being replaced by son Amit Kumar along with Udit Narayan.
So, it looks like this Victoria is all about the next generation.
