Raja's spectrum of controversies grows bigger

New Delhi: Telecom Minister A Raja continues to stay connected with controversy and corruption charges. On Sunday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was forced to comment on the controversy involving Raja.

“I don't want to comment on Cabinet matters or what happens in the Cabinet in public. It is not proper for me to do so,” the Prime Minister said.

The Opposition quickly pounced on Manmohan Singh's comment and launched a frontal attack for stepping up on a case that is now being probed by the CBI.

Raja is not named in the FIR. But BJP says it is a monumental scam of over Rs 60,000 crore in which the Minister cannot be given a clean chit.

“I think the PM should not have intervened in this matter while the investigation was on. His concern for probity is now under trial,” Jaitley said.

Raja, too, hit back at the allegations and challenged the charges against him.

The Government is now treading carefully. The Department of Telecommunication has announced revised guidelines for auctioning Third Generation or 3G Spectrum. The deadline for allocation has been extended to January next year.

So, the spectrum of the political battle in the winter session has been clearly defined.
