Hyderabad: It's Harvest Hungama time, but in Andhra Pradesh the celebrations are a silent one. People there are celebrating the harvest festival in silence, trying to get in touch with their inner selves and the almighty.
The festivities at Gowra's household in Hyderabad are in full swing. They are celebrating the transition of the sun from Sagittarius to Capricorn . Simply put it's Makar Sankranti.
After the prayers, the new clothes, the decorations and the feast, the Gowra's feel that one has got to sit cross legged, close your eyes and try to find God.
A family member— Uday says, "Yes, I like to meditate. It makes me feel very relaxed and calm. I like it when I meditate with the whole family."
Head of the family, Gowra Prasad believes that, "This is an occasion to celebrate with family, friends and relatives. The day usually starts with a meditation. We sit as a group and meditate for 20-25 minutes. It gives us a feeling of togetherness."
From this day begins the 6-month long Uttarayana, it's considered very auspicious for attaining higher worlds hereafter.
After harvesting all the good karma for the year, the family feasts together.
