KOTTAYAM: Kiliroor, a sleepy hamlet in Kottayam, came to limelight when the sex scandal involving teenager Shari S Nair surfaced.
Coming under Thiruvarpu panchayat, Kiliroor is Shari’s mother’s native place where the family lived for sometime in a rented house until Shari’s death. A little away from the rented house live their relatives.
A visit to the place would help meet people who have tremendous sympathy for the family. A thing that strikes one is the maturity with which they see the case. People have no social stigma against the relatives of Shari who live here. The neighbours and the local people interact freely.
In fact they provided all encouragement to the kin, including Shari’s grandmother, during the trying times, says one of the relatives. The real owners of the house lives outside Kerala and had let out their house to Shari’s family with the intention of keeping it well maintained.
As soon as the case surfaced, the family left for Thrikodithanam in Changanassery, Shari’s father’s place, with mother and brother. Life in Kiliroor is normal for the relatives who want to bury the past and live a peaceful life.
