New Delhi: The womenfolk of Kerala observe an unique festival on Tuesday, March 10.

It is called the ‘Attukal Pongala Mahotsava’ which is considered the world's largest ‘women's only' religious event.

Thousands of women congregated at the Attukal Bhagawathy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

Usually, they cook the ‘pongala’, a sweet porridge of rice, jaggery and coconut, in earthen pots as an offering to the Goddess.

The rituals will officially begin around 1030 hrs IST. More than 25 lakh women are expected to turn up for the festival.

This year, a chartered helicopter will be used to shower flower petals on the temple premises during the ceremony.
