Aamir Khan attends wedding of auto-rickshaw driver's son

Varanasi: Superstar Aamir Khan kept his promise to his friend and auto-rickshaw driver Ram Lakhan by attending the wedding of his son in Varanasi amid much chaos. Dressed in blue denim and white shirt, the 47-year-old actor reached the wedding venue at Mehmurganj's Chaurasiya marriage hall post midnight. Aamir was supposed to reach there by 9.30pm but he got delayed as he had to travel by road from Patna, said Ram Lakhan who met the actor during the promotions of '3 Idiots'.

Aamir hugged his friend and felicitated the newly weds Rajiv and his bride, Vijayta before posing for the paparazzi.

It was a utter chaos at the wedding as crowd and media had gathered to get a glimpse of the actor. Interestingly, his decision to attend the wedding coincides with the promotions of Aamir's debut television venture 'Satyamev Jayate' which also has a common man theme.

It is not often that a Bollywood star flies down from Mumbai to attend the wedding in an auto-driver's family. But then, Aamir Khan is known for his down-to-earth disposition and human face.

Aamir attended the wedding of Rajeev, son of Ram Lakhan aka Nathuni, the auto-driver who drove the star around the lanes of the temple city back in December 2009 when Aamir masquerading as a commoner was promoting his film '3 idiots'.
The wedding ceremony took place on April 25.
Hiding his real face behind make-up and heavy get-up, Aamir had wound his way through the dingy, narrow bylanes of Varanasi on Nathuni's auto-rickshaw and had "hit it big time".
During that trip, the star had also successfully located his maternal grand-mother's house, thanks to the auto-driver's immense knowledge of the city.
The 47-year-old star continued with his bonding with the auto-driver and even sent Nathuni air tickets to fly down to Mumbai for the premier of '3 Idiots'.
The film went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters at the box office.
Nathuni recently went to Mumbai to invite his "friend" Aamir for the wedding of his son Rajeev.
Rajeev is an engineer with an anti-virus company in Jaipur.
Aamir had promised to come down for the D-day.
Nathuni said he was very happy that Aamir kept his word.
Vijeta, Rajeev's bride-to-be, is also excited about the VVIP guest and so is her mother Asha.
"We have been told by 'samdhiji' that Aamir Khan is coming and we are on top of the world," she said.
The marriage was solemnised at Laharkhara where the bride lives.
Adequate policemen was deployed at the marriage venue.
The 47-year-old actor met Lakhan two and half years ago.
The actor-producer is currently busy with his debut TV venture 'Satyamev Jayate'.
Aamir Khan, on his way to Varanasi to attend the wedding Wednesday of Rajeev, stopped in Patna for two hours and enjoyed the Bihari delicacy litti-chokha.
The star reached here post-noon, interacted with the local people and left by late afternoon by road to attend the wedding in Varanasi.

Though, the media was informed about Aamir's arrival for the wedding, the actor denied that it had anything to do with the promotion of his show.

"This is the wedding of my friend Ramlakhan Paswan's son. I have not come here to promote any upcoming serial or movie. I am here to attend the ceremony. I met Ram lakhan during the promotion of '3 Idiots' and he came to my house to invite me for the wedding one year ago. I wish the bride and groom the very best. Especially the bride, who may find happiness," the actor said.

Aamir, who stayed at the venue for nearly half an hour, said Varanasi has got a special place in his heart as his mother was born here. He also visited his uncle's place in the city before attending the wedding.

"Varanasi is my mother's birthplace. The place is dear to me and I share a special relationship with it," the actor said, who visited the holy city after two and half years.

While he was busy interacting with the media, the corner of the stage collapsed but the actor managed to balance himself.

Lakhan, on his part, said, "I just want Aamir sir's well wishes and nothing else. All my life, I will maintain and cherish this relationship."
