Mumbai: The mother of the 9-days-old abandoned infant, Mrityunjaya has now been traced. The baby was found last month in the Lokhandwala area of Mumbai in an injured state.
The baby had 26 deep gashes on his head and was lying in a garbage heap. The mother, who has been arrested by the police, says she abandoned the child for she does not have enough money to feed him. She also does not want the baby back.
The police have charged Manisha under section 317, for abandoning a child, born from an extramarital affair. The woman however claims, she knows nothing of how the boy got the 26 stab wounds on his body.
Manisha Saroj, Mrityunjay's mother said, “We are very poor. I don't have money to feed him.”
It's a miracle that the baby boy is still alive. Dumped in a garbage heap in Mumbai's Lokhandwala, the infant was found by a milkman who rushed him to a hospital. Doctors discovered he had 26 deep gashes on his tiny body. Today, he has lived up to his name Mrityunjaya—the conqueror of death.
“He will always have marks on his skull, but thankfully that will not lead to a permanent disability,” said Dr Sanjay Oak Dean, Nair Hospital.
Having fought off death, Mritunjay has now another battle to fight—his mother who was arrested by Mumbai police does not want him back.
Mumbai Police DCP Shivaji Bodke said, “It could have been caused by barbed wire or glass in the garbage dump, but we are still investigating.”
Mrityunjay has been moved to an orphanage. Several people have come forward to adopt the child, but that decision still rests with the courts.
