New Delhi: The police on Friday launched its investigations into the alleged role of the man involved in the baby brutality case. 2-year-old Falak was brought in a battered condition to AIIMS on January 18 by a 15-year-old girl who claimed to be her mother.
However, further probe revealed that the girl had received the child from the man she was staying with. Rajkumar, a taxi-driver, who was having an affair with the girl, is currently on the run. Sources say he received Falak from a friend of his, Manoj, who in turn, took custody of her from an acquaintance, Munni.
The teenager girl has now been sent to a juvenile home. Sources say she too seems to be a victim of abuse. She admitted on Thursday that she had thrashed the child in a fit of rage.
"We are looking at all possible angles. We will soon arrest whoever is responsible," said Ajay Chaudhury, Additional Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi, Ajay Chaudhury.
Falak is now fighting for her life at AIIMS Trauma Centre. She has been off ventilator since Friday morning and doctors say she has regained control of her limbs. However, the road ahead is still tough. The brain hemorrhage she sustained after her head was repeatedly smashed against a wall means a 100 per cent recovery is unlikely.
"A team of 20 doctors and 18-20 nurses is taking care of the girl. The biggest challenge for the baby remains that she doesn’t develop any new infection. In such cases, especially after ventilators, patients show tendencies towards pneumonia," said Sumit Sinha, a surgeon at AIIMS.
He ruled out any sexual assault on the baby.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday offered support for the toddler and said, "Delhi government will give all necessary support, let the report come."
