Abhinav makes Indian National Anthem at Olympics a reality

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: In the 2004 Athens Olympics, Abhinav Bindra broke the Olympic record but failed to win a medal.

Till now he was only known for his golds won in the the 2002 Commonwealth Games at Manchester and the 2006 Games at Melbourne , but on August 11 at the Beijing Shooting Hall during the Olympic Games, Abhinav created history winning gold in the 10m air rifle event.

For Abhinav's father the success of his son on the world stage has been a lifetime mission.

And every glorious step makes his chest swell with pride. For Abhinav an affluent background and the advantage of an indoor shooting range in his palatial bunglow has made him the object of envy. But Abhinav isn't just a rich kid living a life of luxury.

"I think each failure in life is a stepping stone for success. I have always believed in him and I have always told him believe in yourself and you will do it," Babli Bindra, Abhinav mother, said.

Abhinav did well to reach the final of the Athens Olympics with the score of 597 but was unfortunate not to finish with a medal but he has put that memory behind him.

"He had made a remark that his best is yet to come and he proved it but I thought long time back he has the potential to be a world champion," Abhinav's father AS Bindra said.

Abhinav is known to be a calm and composed individual who rarely displays his emotions even at times like this when he won two gold medals at Melbourne.

And at the 2008 Olympics, he took a big step forward.

It's the first time ever that the Indian National Anthem was played at an individual event. Abhinav Bindra made that dream come true.
