'Absconding' Mohanty in Orissa, likely to surrender

Bhubaneshwar: After being declared an absconder by a Rajasthan court, suspended Orissa DGP B B Mahanty, a court in Jaipur has issued a standing warrant and attached the property of BB Mohanty the absconding Orissa DGP-Home Guard, who is accused of helping his son escape jail in November last year and also sheltering him.

Sources day Biti might have used a fake passport to sneak out of the country.

Meanwhile Mohanty is believed to be in Orissa. And it is likely that he might surrender after the Supreme Court order on the case filed by Mohanty.

Twenty-four-old Biti was convicted by a fast track court in Jaipur for raping a German research scholar at Alwar last year.

The latest reports that CNN-IBN correspondent, Jajati Karan got from reliable sources on the B B Mohanty case is that he is likely to surrender after the Supreme Court's order which he is awaiting.

He had challenged the Jaipur courts order in the Supreme Court but most likely Supreme Court will issue arrest warrants against Mohanty probably within seven days and he will have no other option left after that.

The fresh warrant on Friday means that the non-bailable warrant stands cancelled and Mohanty has been declared an absconder and can be arrested anywhere anytime.

Karan spoke to the Supreme Court lawyer Shiv Shanker Mishra, who represents the Orissa government.

Karan was able to get Mishra’s mobile number – 09810122138 and also the lawyer of Mohanty J R Das’s office number- 23383777,23070470.

Sources say that Mohanty has fraudulently sent Biti abroad with fraud passport and he is afraid that once he surrenders, the serious criminal cases might be made to everyone’s awareness and that the Rajasthan police might apply third degree to him.

However, it is believed that Mohanty is very much in Orissa and once the Supreme court issues order, the Orissa police will have no other option but to force him to surrender.
