AC Milan's Gattuso operation a success

Goal.com

New Delhi: AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has come out of the operating theatre, and the surgery to his anterior cruciate ligament has been a success.

The good news for Rossoneri fans is that the surgery went well, the bad news is a six month absence from the pitch which means Gattuso is likely to miss the rest of the season.

The talismanic midfielder underwent a 1.5 hour operation in Belgium and Milan have confirmed that it was a success.

A statement on the club's official website reads:

"AC Milan would like to communicate that Rino Gattuso was operated today (Monday) by Professor Martens and his team. The players right knee ligaments were reconstructed and the surgery was a complete success. His recovery period will be around six months."

Before his operation Gattuso seemed optimistic as he went into theatre.

"It will take time before I am back on the pitch but I don't want to rush things. I have been told to stay calm and use my head," Gattuso told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

The player's estimated absence is likely to promt the club into finding an alternative replacement to cover his role until the end of the season.
