New York: A lawyer for a man charged with stalking Caroline Kennedy's daughter says his client believes he was only offering his love when he showered her with flowers, balloons and romantic e-mails.

Attorney Gerald Hertz says his client was not trying to threaten Tatiana Schlossberg. Hertz said his client "just didn't get it."

A judge yesterday ordered a psychiatric examination for 41-year-old Naeem Ahmed to determine his mental fitness for court.
