Thrissur (Kerala): In 2001 Mohanlal mesmerised the audience with his performance in the Sanskrit play Karnabharan.

Now the actor returns on stage with Chayamukhi.

An attempt to revive theatre in God's Own Country, the play is produced by 'Kalidas Visual Magic' a production house promoted by the actor himself. Chayamukhi opens in Thrissur and Mohanlal has big plans for it.

“This is the first preview show happening in Trissur. If it is a success I am sure lots of things will be done. We can incorporate a number of actors from other languages and even come out with a nation play,” says Mohanlal.

Chayamukhi is based on a folk tale related to the Mahabharata and Mohanlal plays the role of Bheema.

A veteran actor with over 300 films to his credit, no guesses on which medium this Padmashri winner finds more challenging.

“In cinema you can have number of retakes. Here you have only one take. If you are not sincere and perfect it will spoil everything. It will not only kill you but will kill others also because what we are doing here is live and the reaction is immediate,” says Mohanlal.

Mohanlal's latest theatrical venture sees him team up with well-known Malayali actor Mukesh who takes up the role of Keechaka in the play.

“Drama has gone down badly here. I always wanted to do something to help it. Coincidently I met Mohanlal who also had the same dream. In fact, in the last three years we have been looking out for a play and bring it to the stage in a big way so that it will help theatre,” says actor, Mukesh.

Chayamukhi is perhaps the first big attempt to revive theatre in Kerala but for somebody like Mohanlal it adds one more feather to his already well-decorated cap.
