New Delhi: Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma was detained for around nine hours on Monday and was let off around midnight. Anushka had undeclared goods worth Rs 35 lakh.
Anushka says she had declared the goods on departure. But Customs says she did not have the requisite 'export certificate', and certificate from brands is not enough.
Customs suspects Anushka bought the jewellery and expensive watches abroad. Customs officers recorded Anushka's oral and written statement. Goods have now been sealed, and is in possession of the Customs Department.
Customs officials are also verifying the documents provided by her claiming that the belongings were taken from India, he said.
The 23-year-old actor claimed that while going abroad, she had taken the valuables from India and had declared the goods at that time and hence need not pay the duty.
The 'Band Baaja Barat' star was stopped by the Customs while passing through the green channel after she was found in possession of gold and diamond-studded jewellery and two watches collectively worth Rs 35 lakh approximately, officials said.
Actress Minissha Lamba had been detained by the Customs in May for carrying dutiable jewellery that she had not declared while Bipasha Basu had been stopped at the airport for carrying valuables from abroad recently.
