Lucknow: He calls himself the world's top sexologist.
Lucknow-based Dr A K Jain's advertisements can be seen outside virtually every railway and bus station, but the sexologist, it seems, failed to realise that publishing a photo of the Governor in one of his advertisements could lead to quite a bit of trouble.
The Superintendent of Police, Lucknow, Paresh Pandey says, "Aisa lagta hai ki unhone apne kaam ke prachaar ke liye bade logon ka prayaog kiya. Unhone iskeliye anumati bhi nahi li." (It seems as if has used big people to promote his work, but without their permission.)
The sexologist was arrested by the police after the controversial advertisement was published in leading newspapers on May 8 to mark the World Red Cross Day.
It was reportedly published by Dr Jain on behalf of the UP unit of the Red-Cross Society of India.
Meanwhile, a Raj Bhawan spokesperson told CNN-IBN: "No permission was sought from the Governor before publishing this advertisment. The Governor has also written a letter to the District Magistrate of Lucknow expressing his displeasure over the advertisement and has demanded that an unconditional apology be published by the accused."
However, Dr Jain has refuted all charges. He says his media department published the advertisement under the impression that the Governor was the de-facto chairperson of the Red Cross Society.
He says, "Yeh advertisement nahi tha, sir, introduction tha. Main legal battle karunga." (This was an advertisement, it was only an introduction. I will fight a legal battle.")
All those who believe in the theory that 'any publicity is good publicity' might have already got a rude shock after reading this report. It seems that publicity can make you famous but if the publicity is cheap, it can also land you into deep trouble.
