Jabalpur: BJP leader L K Advani has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA at a rally in Jabalpur.

The rally was the one that was to kick off his Sankalp Yatra, but the yatra was scrapped due to terror threats.

Predictably, the main theme of Advani's speech was terror and how the BJP would handle the issue if it comes to power.

"If BJP comes to power, it will deal with terror with a heavy hand and there will be a zero tolerance policy towards terrorists and terrorism," he said.

He also accused the Congress of not dealing with terror strongly enough.

"In 2004 after the Congress came to power at the Centre, there were terrorist attacks on Ayodhya, Varanasi, Jammu, Srinagar, Delhi, Malegaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Imphal, Bangalore and above all, there were attacks on 7 local trains within five minutes in mumbai. But how many people have been caught? No one!"

Advani also asked the Prime Minister to furnish details on investigations into previous terror attacks.

"How many terror modules have been busted during UPA regime? There have been a series of terror attacks during the last four years — what is the progress in investigations? Why has Afzal Guru not being hanged till now? How much Bangladeshi infiltration has taken place in the recent years and why has there been no success in stopping it?" he said.

He also targetted the PM for not delivering justice to the families of the victims of the 2001 Parliament attack.

"Dr Manmohan Singh needs to reply to this, that isn't it insulting for those families whose loved ones died during the Parliament attack... though they have returned all the medals, a judgement has still not been passed," Advani demanded.

He said that he was certain the Prime Minister would not be able to answer these questions as "he does not have the courage to speak up".

Advani will be holding a series of rallies across Madhya Pradesh. There is tight security at the rally venue and the Army has been roped in for his security.
