New Delhi: After the BJP the NDA has formally announced that Leader of Opposition L K Advani will be its Prime Ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee though will remain NDA’s chairperson. As Vajpayee has announced his retirement from active politics he will now be more of an approver rather than a decision maker

As senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said: “Humein Atal ji ka maarg darshan lagataar prapt hoga. "

Vajpayee’s continuation as NDA chief sends the message that his legacy is still as important and valued as it was when he himself was in power.

The RSS though seems to be sending contradictory signals. In its mouthpiece Paanch Janya it has asked the Bharat Ratna award for freedom fighter Bhagat Singh or the Indian solider.

Many look at it as a rebuff to Vajpayee whom Advani had openly campaigned for. After all a years ago the RSS chief himself had hit out at Vajpayee and called him selfish.
