New Delhi: While LK Advani had to opt out his nation-wide yatra because of the fear of a suicide attack, he is not the only one under threat.
CNN-IBN has exclusive details of Intelligence Bureau reports which suggest that terrorists are making strategic plans to target many other VIPs.
L K Advani was forced to postpone his plans for a grand yatra across the country after National Security Advisor MK Narayanan met him on Monday night and told him that intelligence agencies have specific information that suicide squads may target him during the tour.
Advani is believed to be on the hitlist of Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami or HUJI, the group that carried out explosions in Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh last year.
Reports say that five HUJI modules trained in Chittagong and Rajsahi areas of Bangladesh have been sent to the country to target him.
HUJI commander Maulvi Abdul Kasim and Mufti Bhaktiyar are believed to be personally supervising this operation. The duo has also been planning to attack Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Advani, who likes to pitch himself on strong lines like a Sardar Patel, is also on the hit list of the D-company, again along with Narendra Modi..
"The threat from the D-company is the biggest. These are the guys who have been specifically trained to do these operations," security expert Ajay Sahni says.
Meanwhile, the combined might of Al Badr, Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammad is believed to have put the Gandhi family on their hit list.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, whose security has recently been upgraded, is being targetted by a new group called Zundulla, which is believed to be managed by Sheikh Muhammad Umar, the same man responsible for the hijacking of IC-814.
Strangely, UP Chief Minister Mayawati, who has been pleading for SPG cover, does not figure in any intelligence report.
"Congress wants to kill me. That’s why they are not doing anything to help me,” Mayawati said on Wednesday.
Over the last 5 years, the number of terror cells across the country have increased. With so many CMs and top political leaders being under terror threat, security is going to be the biggest headache for the UPA government in an election year.
