Mangalore: Shekhar Rathod, a National Security Guard commando, who is part of the team providing security to BJP leader L K Advani, died on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Mangalore after being hit by a speeding tempo near here, police said.
Rathod (32), who had come to his native Karnataka on leave, was hit by the tempo while walking on the road in Moodabidre, 35 km from from Mangalore, on Wednesday resulting in severe head injury, they said.
He was shifted to a private hospital in Mangalore after being administered first aid at Moodabidre. He died at the hospital on Thursday.
A case of hit and run had been registered against the tempo driver, police said.
Rathod was in Moodabidre to visit a friend when the mishap occurrred.
