Cong, NCP set to get lead in Maharashtra

Mumbai: The alliance of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party is likely to get between 135 to 145 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, says a projection by CNN-IBN and IBN Lokmat.

The Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance is likely to get between 105 to 115 seats. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is likely to get eight to 12 seats in the 288-seat Assembly, elections to which were held on Tuesday.

Others are likely to get between 25 and 35 seats. According to the IBN Lokmat and CNN-IBN, the Congress likely to be single largest party with 75 to 85 seats in the Assembly.

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar's NCP is likely to win 55 to 65 seats in the elections.

The Shiv Sena is also likely to get 55 to 65 seats and its longtime partner, the BJP, is likely to between 45 and 55 seats

The MNS, which has emerged as a rival to the Shiv Sena, may end up with 8 to 12 seats

Others, which include smaller parties, and independent candidates may get between 25 and 35 seats.
