Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai meets PM Manmohan Singh, signs 4 MOUs with India

New Delhi: Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Monday. He also met External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid. Four agreements were signed between the two countries. They signed four agreements in diverse areas, including mines and fertilizers, youth affairs, small development projects and fertilizers.

India committed a $ 2 billion development and infrastructure assistance to Afghanistan. The two countries decided to work on an economic partnership agreement. India will also help with research and scientific assistance to Afghanistan.

"India has been a great supporter in Afghanistan's reconstruction effort. There are better investment opportunities in Afghanistan," Karzai said.

India committed a $ 2 billion development and infrastructure assistance to Afghanistan.

"We dicussed the political situation in Afghanistan. India supports the nation building of Afghanistan," Manmohan Singh said.

Singh and Karzai also discussed strategic partnership agreement, troops training, regional situation and ties with Pakistan. Karzai on Monday got a grand reception in New Delhi.

In Mumbai on Sunday, Karzai promised business leaders a "red carpet" welcome for more Indian investment in Afghanistan as US-led NATO forces prepare to withdraw. The two countries, traditionally close trading partners, signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2011 to deepen already friendly ties and boost trade, security and cultural links.
