London: Shilpa Shetty is hogging the limelight once again. But this time not with a controversy but a Doctorate degree that a leading UK University is conferring on the Bollywood actress.
The Leeds Metropolitan University will confer the doctorate to the 32-year-old star on Wednesday.
With this doctorate, Shilpa will become the youngest actor from the Indian film fraternity to join the ranks of Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra, who have been earlier chosen for the honour.
CNN-IBN’s correspondent Akanksha Banerji caught up with Shilpa who is still surprised at the honour.
Akanksha Banerji: Dr.Shilpa Shetty came quite as a surprise. How did that happen?
Shilpa Shetty: It came as a huge surprise for me too. But I am really humbled and I accept it. I don’t know how to react.
Akanksha Banerji: You are the youngest person to have got the award.
Shilpa Shetty: Sharing the platform with great stalwarts like Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan), Yashji (Yash Chopra), Shabanaji (Shabana Azmi) is a huge honour.
Akanksha Banerji: Academic honour comes with large expectation and responsibility. How did you plan to take the relationship with Leeds University?
Shilpa Shetty: It’s going to be a life long relationship. I have tried my best to do my best. At the moment I am basking in the glory.
