Mumbai: Mumbaikars are bracing themselves for an early summer this year hardly a month after witnessing the coldest winter in decades.
It is not new for Mumbaikars to face a warm March. The difference this year is that February was unusually very cold. The mercury had plummeted to just 7ºC and just a month later, the temperatures are already going above 35ºC.
Generally, temperatures in March have been rising over the last five years and they have actually touched 38-39ºC this week.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 35ºC and it is expected to be around this mark for the next week. So Mumbaikars are already preparing for a tough summer.
Dipika, who hails from Bangalore and has been living in Mumbai for a few years now, says there is a huge difference in the weather between the two cities. "There is lot of difference. Bangalore is much better. But this time, Bombay was colder than Bangalore, which was really pleasant," she says.
Dipika is already preparing for a harsh summer. "I can predict a much worse summer for Mumbai compared to the past years because colder the winter, the warmer it is supposed to be in summer. That is now the trend as far as we can see it," she points out.
And to make matters worse, residents in some areas like Colaba, Mahim and Lower Parel had to deal with a 24-hour cut in water supply on Thursday because of a leakage at the Tansa Dam at Powai.
