New Delhi: For the first time Kolkata-based industrialist Ashok Todi has broken his silence on the mysterious death of his son-in-law, Rizwanur Rehman. Todi spoke to CNN-IBN on his role after his daughter Priyanka married Rizwan against her family's wishes.

CNN-IBN: You opposed Priyanka-Rizwan relationship right from the beginning. How much did you oppose their relationship?

Ashok Todi: My daughter’s marriage came as a shock to me. Immediately, we could not accept it. After recovering from the shock, I tried to speak to my daughter to discuss and figure out the best possible solution to it (her marriage).

CNN-IBN: Reports have suggested that you recruited people like Pappu to threaten them and make them sign divorce papers.

Ashok Todi: No, Pappu had demanded money for himself and the Rehman family. We gave him the money.

CNN-IBN: How much money did you give him?

Ashok Todi: I have told CBI everything and they are investigating.

CNN-IBN: But did you present the divorce paper in front of the police also?

Ashok Todi: No, never. We did not want a divorce. But Pappu proposed this and we wanted to check what the Rehman family wanted, so we gave him the go-ahead for his proposal.

Meanwhile, investigators say they are absolutely certain Rizwanur committed suicide under pressure by Priyanka’s father and others.

The CBI is preparing a chargesheet that is likely to accuse several people, including senior Kolkata police officials, for abetment to committing suicide.
