Sukhna: Even before the controversy over the slapping of a female teacher by an Akali Dal Sarpanch could die, there was a face off between the teachers and the police in Punjab.
Protesting teachers and villagers were roughed by the policemen at Sukhna village in Muktsar.
The incident occurred when the teachers and the villagers blocked the entry of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal into the village.
The Chief Minister was slated to address a public rally in the village.
On Monday, Balwinder Singh, Akali Dal Sarpanch of Daula village, had slapped Varinder Kaur, a teacher who was demanding a permanent job.
An FIR was registered against Balwinder, following which he was arrested. However, he was released immediately on bail.
