Patna: Bihar has become Rahul Gandhi's new battle zone. He has set the tone for the Congress' election campaign by taking on both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former railway minister Lalu Yadav. However the question that remains to be answered is – can Rahul Gandhi repeat his UP magic in Bihar?
Call it Pied Piper phenomenon, but Rahul Gandhi literally found himself at the center of everyone’s attention in Patna when, during the day two of his Bihar tour, Patna Women’s College witnessed a near-stampede among girl students. This happened when he tried to interact with them. He seemed no less than a rock star for the girls longing for a closer darshan of the young Gandhi.
But, while talking to the media, Rahul Gandhi was more reflective in his approach.
"Whenever the distance between our party and the people grows, we tend to lose out in elections, " said Gandhi.
"In Bihar, the Congress party had distanced itself from the people. But now, it will return to them. And we will see its effect in coming days."
Relying on his youth brigade and the Congress's new membership drive, Rahul is preparing his ' team Bihar' with an aim is to replicate the success of Uttar Pradesh.
"Rahulji is a youth icon and after his visit, congress will definitely feel energized, " says Ashok Chaudhary, Congress Spokesperson
"In upcoming elections, the congress will definitely form the government," he adds with confidence.
After distancing itself completely from Lalu Yadav, Congress is in no mood to spare the Bihar Chief Minister. Rahul Gandhi who earlier praised Nitish for good governance did a U-turn on Tuesday.
He said that despite good intensions, Nitish Kumar has failed in implementing policies.
As the congress decides to go it alone in Bihar, the road ahead will not be easy. While Nitish has been projecting the image of a development guru, Lalu Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan have been working towards consolidating their caste-based vote banks.
