Tripura: Tripura's capital Agartala is the latest city to be rocked by a series of bomb blasts. There were five blasts on Wednesday evening killing two people and injuring 70 others.
All the injured have been admitted to GB Hospital where reportedly the condition of 10 of those injured is serious.
All the blasts took place within a span of 45 minutes and the capital city of the relatively peaceful North-Eastern state of Tripura was put on the terror map.
"There was a loud noise and I was dazed. Later on I realised that I had lost my leg," a blast victim said.
The first bomb blast took place at around 1930 hrs IST in the evening in the Gol Bazaar area. Five minutes later the second blast happened at the Radha Nagar bus stop area.
Subsequently there were blasts at the Old Motor stand in Gol Bazaar, MG Bazaar and near Priya Motors in the Palace compound.
The serial blasts seem to conform to a sickeningly familiar pattern
Police say it was crowded areas that were targetted with shopping for Durga Puja and Id at its peak.
Crude bombs were apparently used and timers were used to set them off. The bombs were planted on cycles and motor bikes while two other bombs were recovered and defused.
Police say they are suspecting the possible involvement of the Bangladesh-based Harkat ul Jehadi e Islami (HuJI) along with some local militant outfit and a red alert has been sounded across the state.
Tripura shares a 856-km long border with Bangladesh and the porous border has been used before by HuJI for entering India.
