New Delhi: Street justice was on display in the premises where civil justice is supposed to be delivered.

Twenty-year-old Vinod was tied to a pole, beaten up mercilessly in the premises of Agra district court on Wednesday. Even his head was shaved off. And all this was done because he got into heated argument with a local lawyer Ravindra who also happens to be his relative.

The drama was enacted in full public glare with cameras recording all the proceedings perhaps to humiliate Vinod further.

"What happened in the court premises is unfortunate. We have already constituted an enquiry into the matter,” says President, Agra Bar Association, B R Teharia.

SP, Agra, S S Baghel adds, “We have registered a case against the accused. And we will take required action.”

But such instances are not just restricted to Agra. A few months back lawyers in Ghaziabad court had assaulted the Nithari accused Moninder and Surinder. An FIR was lodged, but no action was taken against the erring lawyers.

The incidents are an indicator that the state of UP still has a long way to go before it can prove the saying - UP Mein Hai Dum Kyunki Jurm Hai Yahan Kum (The state of UP is strong because it has a low crime rate).
