PRODDATUR: A ghastly incident of honour killing came to light on Sunday when it was discovered that C lalitha, a young agriculture officer (27), was murdered by her own brother on April 28 at Neravada village of Chapadu mandal.
SI D Somasekhar said, the deceased C Lalitha (27) had expressed her intention before the family to marry a man who belonged to a lower caste. Ganganna, her brother, was enraged to know that she had been in love with the man since her childhood.
Lalitha was working as an agriculture extension officer at Chagalmarri in Kurnool district. Her father, Linganna, belonged to Yadava community. Her family was against her decision to marry a man from Kodur who was a Dedekula by caste. On the fateful day of April 28, Ganganna hit Lalitha who fell down after suffering grievous injury on her head. His brother pounded her with fists, and then, strangulated her with a towel to death. Later, Ganganna, along with a close relative Pullaiah buried Lalitha’s body in the Kundu river bed. After a week of her disappearance, Varalaxmi, her sister, filed a missing report with Chapadu police station on May 8. SI Somasekhar led the investigation, and arrested Ganganna and Pullaiah. They, later, took the police to the river bed where they had buried Lalitha’s body. The body was exhumed, and sent to Proddatur district hospital for postmortem.
