New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Bharti Enterprises have chucked the plan to set-up a state of the art Academy in Goa due to the various impediments in acquiring the land.
The two bodies were compelled to look for alternate options as the 1, 26,000 sq m ran into tough weather for various reasons.
On Wednesday, a letter was sent to Minister for Urban Development Minister and AIFF vice-president Joaquim Alemao informing him of the decision.
Speaking to Goal.com, Alemao said, "After the last Executive Committee meeting held last month, I was given 15 days time to convince the Goan government and clear the land. Unfortunately, due to the stubbornness of Goa Housing Minister Micky Pacheto, the state of Goa has had to suffer as football is in our blood.
"Micky kept important files in his drawer and he doesn’t understand football. He is a madman."
Meanwhile, the secretary of the Haryana Football Association and Executive Committee member Sunil Bharadwaj stated that his state would more than welcome AIFF and Bharti’s project.
"The son of Haryana Chief Minister Deepender Hooda is the President of Haryana Football Association. Getting land for this project wouldn’t be tough. We will be glad to have this novel project in our state."
