AIIMS Examination Dean set to be new director

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The country's premier health institute, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is all set to get a new director.

The current Dean of Examinations, R C Deka, is most likely to bag the post.

His name was finalised at a meeting of the Institute's body of AIIMS on Monday.

The Union Health Minister, Ambuni Ramadoss has to now forward the name to the Prime Minister's Office.

The search for a new AIIMS Director began with the retirement of former director Dr P Venugopal earlier this year. T D Dogra has been in-charge as the Acting AIIMS Director since then.

AIIMS bid a fond farewell to Venugopal - one of India's best known cardiac surgeons - on July 2, 2008.

The last leg of Dr Venugopal's term though made the headlines for his face-off with Anbumani Ramadoss.

There was a quiet farewell at AIIMS for the man who had spent 49 years of his life at AIIMS.

After Dr Venugopal's exit, doctors were hoping that the Prime Minister's Office wuld pick the new director and not the Health Minister who had a running battle with the former director.
