New Delhi: In a scathing indictment of the Centre, the Supreme Court has stayed OBC reservation saying a final decision will be taken only when the Government collects data on who constitute OBCs in India and submits proper documents on the same.
The Supreme Court had also reprimanded the Centre on trying to divide the country on the basis of caste and for using quota as vote-bank politics.
However, Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has said that it is not a setback to the Centre.
"We will do whatever is needed Constitutionally, legally and socially to ensure that the OBC quota reservation is implemented," he said.
Nonetheless, members of the Resident Doctors' Welfare Association at AIIMS say that this is a very good start to to their fight against caste distinction in education.
Says the President of the association, Dr Harsh, "Everyone here is in a good mood. It is a victory for the country because we do not want the country to be divided on the basis of caste. It is a very good beginning."
Adds Dr Arnav who is the Vice-President, "This is what we have been saying all along. It was the politicians who were dividing the country on the basis of vote bank."
