New Delhi: Barely three months ago, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) saved a man’s life who had a metal rod stuck in his chest and now they have carried out a miraculous surgery on a man whose heart was ruptured in two places after an road accident.

Twenty-two year old Arun Sharma from Meerut recounts the horrific accident that nearly killed him and the miraculous surgery that gave him a second chance to live.

"Doctors are compared to god, but if there was a greater title than god, I would like to give that to my doctor,” says Arun.

About a fortnight ago, Arun met with a bike accident. The impact fractured his breast bone and ruptured his heart at two places.

Doctors at the AIIMS's Trauma center carried out a complex two hour long surgery that finally saved his life. AIIMS says this surgery is the first of its kind.

"Most patients die, if they come in with these kind of injuries. But we operated on him, while his heart was beating and we stopped the bleeding by putting a clasp, and repaired his ruptured heart,” says Assistant Prof of surgery AIIMS Trauma Centre Dr Biplab Mishra.

Less than three months ago, doctors at the AIIMS trauma center treated Supratim Dutta, who had come in with a five feet long metal rod stuck in his chest. Doctors had considered that surgery as miraculous, but now they say Arun's case was even more complicated.

For Arun his recovery is like a new birth and he owes it to the doctors at AIIMS.
