AIIMS to give sex education to to-be-couples

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences administration is running a pre-marriage course which promises to be a key to a happy marriage.

The health promotion and communication unit of AIIMS has called upon all those who are above 18 years of age and are planning to get married to attend a two day pre-marriage course.

The main aim of this course is to clear sexual myths and educate people about sex.

"We are going to give out information about anatomy, sexually transmitted diseases, sex related myths and also screening of genetic disorders" says Sex and marriage counselor Dr Bir Singh.

Doctors say, couples coming in with sex related queries have significantly risen in the past couple of years. They say it's one of the leading reasons for marital discord.

Newly weds Pratap and Neha, who got married a little over six-months-ago, agree for the need such course.

"The base of such a course should be wider and it should reach out to more people," says Pratap.

"There are so many problems and anxieties that one needs to deal with. This type of a course should be made mandatory for all newly weds or people about to get married," adds Neha.

Going by the response the course has received, the health promotion and communication unit of AIIMS will expand the programme, making it available in smaller centres in local languages.

The two day course for the 29 July and 30 July, is open to all on a first come first serve basis for 30 participants.
