Kolkata: Cyclone Aila might have died down but its after-effects are far from happy. People in Kolkata are now grappling with issues like shortage of water and electricity in most parts of the city.
With no electricity and water supply in most parts of the city, public outrage against the authorities is spreading like wild fire.
Angry residents took to streets on Wednesday protesting against the continuing power and water shortage. From Tollygunge, garia to Ashoknagar and Bansdroni areas, there were blockades everywhere. People complained that the authorities haven't done anything to restore the broken electricity cables in the city.
“Electric supply not receiving calls. We are suffering without water, light since the storm has hit the city,” says a resident Ajit Das.
The Municipal Corporation authorities were unavailable for comment, though Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has appealed to people to remain calm.
“I perfectly understand the situation. We have put a lot of pressure on Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to solve the problem quickly. I appeal for patience,” says Bhattacharjee.
