New Delhi: Airline heads are divided on the fake pilot controversy. Air Deccan CEO Captain GR Gopinath wants tough action against all the alleged fake pilots and people involved in helping them acquire forged licence. He demands that all those found found guilty should be put behind bars. However, Kingfisher Chairman Vijay Mallya claims such incidents are rare.
“There are individuals either in the flying schools or regulatory authorities who have compromised and I think it is a criminal offence. They must be prosecuted criminally and if found guilty they must be put behind bars,” Gopinath said.
“There may be stray cases that have been reported now but mostly it is a cofactor of 99.9 per cent, it is highly unlikely that any such malpractices will be found, Mallya said.
“Don’t forget getting a license is just a small part of getting to fly an aeroplane you have to demonstrate proficiency time and time again, undergo various checks before you are allowed to fly a commercial aircraft,” Mallya added.
